Social Justice - Democracy’s Imperative

Don’t forget to attend the forum at the Main Akron Public Library Auditorium on Tuesday, April 29, 2008.  The forum will address issues of poverty, hunger, the inaccessibility of healthcare, the degradation of the environment and the crisis in public education.

Our moderator is Subodh Chandra who is a principal of Chandra     Law Firm, LLC. Trustee for the Cleveland Bar Association and       their Co-Chair of the Diversity Action Committee.  He served as  the Law Director for the City of Cleveland and a Federal  Prosecutor and Special Presidential Counsel at the American Bar Associaton

Our speakers are Dr. William C. Keck, Emeritus Chair and      Professor in the Department of Community Health Services at      Northeastern Ohio Colleges of Medicine; Dr. Steven Brooks,      Associate Director of the Ray C. Bliss Institute of Applied
Politics and Associate Professor of Political Science at the      University of Akron; and Rev. Dr. Curtis Walker, Pastor of Wesley Temple African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church and Vice-President of the Akron Board of Education.

This event is free and open to the public. The Akron Public Library is not a sponsor of this program.

GET READY TO PUT YOUR “FEET ON THE STREET”

Grass-roots activism is the core of SCPD PAC and this logo is what we use to announce to our members the many opportunities we have to help good candidates get elected.  Campaign season will be starting soon and SCPD PAC will issue weekly bulletins of key campaign activities our endorsed candidates need help with.  We’ve already done some preliminary campaign help—stuffing envelopes for Bob Gippin, candidate for Common Pleas Judge; phone-banking for Bill O’Neill, candidate for 14th Congressional District; campaign planning for Eve Belfance, candidate for Judge for 9th District Common Pleas Court of Appeals and Mike Moran, candidate for State Representative for 42nd District.  Our candidates will need YOUR feet (and energy and talent) to succeed, so be ready to live your principles by participating.

While SCPD supports and works on many other issues, the membership has selected these five issues for major focus:

Ending the Iraq War

Voter's rights

Education Funding in Ohio - Member Papers here, here and here

Civil Liberties and National Security

Universal/Single payer Healthcare

Dear Members and Friends:
The following links
here, here and here show the reason why we should all purchase SCPD canvass shopping bags to use for groceries and other shopping.  They are sturdy, American made and Union printed and cost on;ly $12.00 each or 3 for $33.00.  This is a concrete way in which we can help save our environment.  To buy, call 330-923-0732 or email ikunstel@neo.rr.com.
