Environmental Protections

Position Statement

Approved by General Membership
May 12, 2009

Because all living things on Earth, including humans, depend on an ecologically healthy environment, the Environmental Issues team advocates for:

* Improved clean air standards.
* Improved water standards.
* The protection of our soils.
* Reducing trash and landfills.
* Reduced U. S. greenhouse gas emissions.
* Investments in solar and wind energy and other alternative sources of clean, renewable and sustainable sources of energy.
* Higher fuel efficiency standards for automobiles.
* More energy efficient buildings.
* Continued protection of endangered species.

We intend to do this through monitoring of web sites and other sources for action plans dealing with these issues and through individual’s associations with other progressive groups that share our concern for the environment. We intend to generate interests in appropriate projects through communication with our SCPD members, through educational efforts at meetings and Action Alerts.
