SCPD Pac Attack…

News, Updates, action items and more

July 20, 2008

CHALLENGE 08--WE'RE GETTING CLOSE

In order to support our endorsed candidates, SCPD PAC set itself a challenge to get at least 62 members to participate in at least one campaign event by Labor Day.  After the July 4 parades we are at 47 members.  If you haven't volunteered yet, please consider doing so by replying to one of the weekly "Feet on the Street" e-mails.  For July 4 weekend we had 54 volunteers participate (some members did more than one event).

LET THE PUBLIC VOTE ON PUBLIC ASSETS

At the last membership meeting members voted to endorse putting on the November ballot a measure that would require a public vote on any proposals to sell, lease, or otherwise dispose of any publically-owned utility.  The current issue is whether to lease the city of Akron sewer system to a private entity.  Our endorsement addresses the principle that the public should vote on such issues.  We have not yet taken a position on the specific issue of the sewer system.

IS OBAMA MOVING TO THE RIGHT?

There has been lots of controversy about recent Obama statements and votes.  Is he really progressive or is he just another politician?  Read both sides here.  Bob Herbert accuses Obama of "lurching to the right".  To read it, click  here.  But Gail Collins says he has been pretty consistent, click here  .

SCPD PAC TO HAVE TABLE AT FDR DINNER

SCPD PAC members have purchased a table for the Ninth Annual FDR Dinner which is the Summit County Democratic Party's major fundraiser.  14 of our members will be spending Sunday, July 20 socializing and listening to the guest speakers for this event.

While SCPD supports and works on many other issues, the membership has selected these five issues for major focus:

Ending the Iraq War

Voter's rights

Education Funding in Ohio - Member Papers here, here and here

Civil Liberties and National Security

Universal/Single payer Healthcare

Dear Members and Friends:
The following links
here, here and here show the reason why we should all purchase SCPD canvass shopping bags to use for groceries and other shopping.  They are sturdy, American made and Union printed and cost on;ly $12.00 each or 3 for $33.00.  This is a concrete way in which we can help save our environment.  To buy, call 330-923-0732 or email ikunstel@neo.rr.com.
